Our Rich Heritage

Founded in 1903/1904, Sonneborn Chemical and Refining Corp. entered the petroleum industry in the USA. During WWI, our Pennsylvania facility became the first producer of white oil in the United States, addressing a critical shortage in Europe. In 1960, Witco Corporation acquired Sonneborn, including the Petrolia facility, marking a significant expansion. Most recently, in 2022, the establishment of HF Sinclair Corporation has further solidified our position in the industry.
