Sonneborn was named as the 2015 Butler County Employer of the Year by the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (TCWIB) during its Dec. 11 breakfast and meeting at Kittanning Country Club.
Each year, the board takes nominations for employers in Armstrong, Butler and Indiana Counties for the Employer of the Year Award.
The award is given to employers who have significantly contributed to the workforce development system with the region.
Sonneborn, which is in Petrolia, is a manufacturer and supplier of high-purity specialty hydrocarbons used in both the consumer and industrial marketplaces. The company uses state-of-the-art refining and manufacturing processes and have created products such as lubricant for air conditioning and refrigerator compressors, laminating waxes for food packaging and vegetable-based oils for personal care products.
The company was honored because of its support in county workforce efforts through the Butler County Manufacturing Industry Partnership and the Butler County Manufacturing Consortium.
Sonneborn has also helped in sponsoring and volunteering in STEM education with the Moraine Trail Council of the Boy Scouts and in the county schools.
During the event, Dynamic Manufacturing LLC, an electronic device manufacturer in Freeport, was named Armstrong County Employer of the Year and Community Guidance Center, a private nonprofit mental health clinic in Indiana, was named Indiana County Employer of the year.
